West lake Scenic Area

Locating in the western area of Hangzhou city’s historic center, it is original a shallow sea inlet, due to lying down of silt. It is surrounded by three Sides Mountains, with the total areas about 6.7square Km (1404 acres), average depth 2.27m it is the most famous lake in the world, the famous Song dynasty poet Sushi, compared the lake to Xizi, one of the most beautiful lady in ancient China.
There are over 60 cultural relic sites of state, provincial and municipal levels and over 100 attractions. Among them, the most classic is the Ten Scenes and the New Ten Scenes at the west lake.

Linyin Temple
![]() It is one of the largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples in China, and contains numerous pagodas and Budddhist grottoes. It was constructed in 326 AD. Near the entrance of the temple, there is the famous Buddhist grotto, called Feilaifeng, meaning peaking flying from afar.
The residence of Hu xueyan![]() Hu Xueyan, a wealthy businessman from Hangzhou in the late 1800’s. His house was built in 1872, and it was a huge complex and covers at least a couple of acres. Included in that area are extensive garden areas, a huge complex of artificial caves, and all sorts of rooms for family, servants, guests, eating, reading, etc. Hu’s descendants mortgaged the house and lost it after his death and it passed through a series of owners until the provincial government acquired it, restored it, and turned it into a museum of sorts.

Liuhe pagoda
![]() literally Six Harmonies Pagoda or Six Harmonies Tower, is multi-storied Chinese pagoda in southern Hangzhou. It is located at the foot of Yuelun Hill, facing the Qiantang River. One of the famous pagoda in Hangzhou. It was originally constructed during the in the year 970 in Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127 AD), destroyed in 1121, and reconstructed fully by 1165, during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 - 1279 AD).

The Humble Administrator's Garden![]() Covering about 52,000 sq. meters (12.85 acres), it is the largest and most renowned gardens and considered to be the finest garden in Sothern China. It is also one of the gardens which have been listed in the world Heritage list.

Lion Grove Garden![]() It is one of the four most famous and representative gardens of ancient classical style in Suzhou City. Built in 1342 during the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) by Monk Tianru and a group of Zen Buddhist disciples as a memorial of their master-Monk Zhongfeng, it is an ideal sightseeing site as it has richly ornamental pavilions and towers in different styles; each has its own history and story. However, the most attractive scenery of Lion Grove Garden is the labyrinthine rockery, which was mostly made of the limestone from Taihu Lake in Wuxi City.
Ancient Water Town Zhouzhuang and Tongli![]() Zhouzhuang: One of the most famous water townships in China, situated in Kunshan City which is only 30 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of Suzhou. It is noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views and the unique local traditions and customs. Lingering Garden![]() With a history of more than 400 years, covering an area of 23,300 square meters (about 5.8 acres), it is one of the four most famous gardens in China. Possessing typical Qing style, it is well-known for the exquisite beauty of its magnificent halls, and the various kinds of shapes and colors of the buildings. Like other famous gardens in Suzhou, the Lingering Garden seeks to create stunning natural landscapes within limited space. In this garden, there are domiciles, ancestral temples and private gardens. Buildings, trees, and flowers blend harmoniously with their surroundings. In 1997, the garden was recorded on the list of the world heritage by UESCO.
Canglang Pavillion![]() It is the oldest of the Suzhou gardens that can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty (906-1127). During that time, a scholar Su Shunqing was demoted and sent to Suzhou. He bought the garden and built the pavilion in a setting adjacent to water that was on the property that would enhance the beauty of the garden. Unlike other gardens, Canglang Pavilion emphasizes the harmony between man-made buildings and the natural environment.

Hanshan Temple![]() It is said that in the Tang Dynasty, a famous monk Han Shan came to take charge of the temple, hence got its name. Building originally commenced during the Liang Dynasty (502-557), and was repaired again in the following dynasties. Now, covering an area of about 10,600 square meters (about three acres), it presents the architectural style of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It includes the Grand Prayer Hall, Sutra-Collection Building, Bell Tower, Fengjiang Pavilion and Tablets Corridor, etc.
